I think that says it all!!

Two days ago I turned 17 years old! And for the first time in my life, I didn't celebrate my birthday with a massive party! Instead a just had a small family dinner. Heres how my day went:

12:00am: ITS MY BIRTHDAY!!

6:00am: Woke Up to many birthday wishes through texts and Facebook

6:30am: Went running, ate breakfast, read my bible, got ready for school.

8:30am: Walked to school

8:45am: Walked into the school gates with about 20 birthday greetings all yelled out at once by my lovely school friends

9:00am: received some presents!!

11:30am: Was serenaded with the Birthday Song by some friends

1:30pm: Again, serenaded with the Birthday Song by a different group of friends (very loudly and emphasised I might add!)

2:00pm: Received 17 soft birthday punches to the arm..

3:30pm: Walked home talking to my little sister

4:30pm: Received more presents and birthday Ang Pow!!

5:00pm: Study.....

6:00pm: Family came over for dinner. We ate western food!!

8:00pm: Again again, was serenaded with the Birthday Song by my beautiful family but this time with a fresh fruit cake!

9:30pm: Went for a swim and then took a shower

10:00pm: Sat with my little sister eating ice cream and watching some of my favourite movies and reminiscing over the year that just passed.

12:00am: End of my birthday.. so I went to sleep!

Well there you have it. Another year gone by! When I look back over my year of being 16, I always considered it to have been a horrible year with so much drama and negativity.. but what I realised is that all that drama gave me so many chances to learn something new. I never thought that from so much pain and self-disappointment, that I would feel so revived and alive in the year straight after it ended. Now looking back, I thank God for every single day i lived in the year of 2011. Everything has a purpose and now I can say I know what mine was going through those experiences. I thank God for His mercy, strength and most of all, Love.

Picnic Day with my school Friends!

A few weeks before school ended this year, a group of friends and I decided to do secret santa! It was just a small group so it was pretty exciting!

We decided that we would have a little picnic just after Christmas when everyone gets back from holidays at Burswood Park.

Anyway, my secret santa was Damien! He is a relative my age who I go to school with! So for a few weeks I wasn't sure what to get him. Not because I didn't know at all what to get him but because I couldn't pick what to get him!!? The kid loves so many things its hard to pick!

While I was in Singapore, I was wondering around looking for what I wanted to get for him. Shoes? Clothes? Bags? Electronics? SO MANY CHOICES!! Then I passed this male jewellery store! It was one of the top stores I've ever see and inside I found a cross necklace that I bought for him!

So when I got home from Singapore, my friends and I made the long trek from Burswood traino to the park in the heat, sat down under a shady tree on 3 blue picnic blankets, with lots of water and 20 bags of chips to play mafia and exchange presents!

It was a pretty great day!

Lynwood's Year 11 Dinner Dance...

At the end of each year, the year coordinator organises a function of some sort for the entire year group to attend! In year 8 there was the movies, in year 9 there was ice skating and in year 10 there was a river cruise! Sadly, I didn't attend any of these functions as I was either sick, with family or overseas travelling!

So this year, the end of year function was a much bigger than the past 3 and required much more organisation. So my year coordinator, Mr Barnett, asked me to assist him with the planning for this event! We spend a few months throwing around ideas, themes, places, food menus, music and anything special to add. We received much input from other students which was taken into account and then used where we could!

Happy 17th Birthday Bethel!

Today Bethel IPC turns 17! We celebrated the occasion with a big fancy dinner with everyone from bethel and many friends invited!

There were 5 food stores, fish & chips, meat lovers, chinatown, corner cafe and drinks!

We had a service based on the theme, JOY!

The different choirs performed one song item each.

There were 30+ visitors from Bethany in Singapore.

And there was alot of joy bouncing off the walls from everyone there!

Leading in Worship for YPG!

Today the discipleship girls, Jewel, Kelly, Charlene and I chaired for YPG! We were given a two week notice to prepare ourselves! The theme that we were to prepare out chairing on was 'finding joy in the Lord!' Each of the us separately wrote a short reflection what what it meant for us to find joy in the Lord on a personal level.

Charlene spoke about finding joy in all the beautiful things that the Lord has created.

Jewel spoke about the joy of prayer.

Kelly spoke about the joy in fellowship.

I shared about finding joy in knowing that the Lord is our rock!

We shared three songs, How great you are, I go to the rock and In Christ Alone!

This was my time chairing was the second time I've ever chaired and it was just as thrilling as the first time (:

Lynwood's Jeans for Genes Day + Photogeneics!

The other day at school the student council ran an annual fundraiser called Jeans for Genes Day! The idea of this event is that all students are allowed to wear their favourite jeans to school in exchange for a gold coin donation. All the money raised goes towards supporting the children's medical research institute.

Usually we raise about $300 for this cause. Which is a good amount to donate but for a high school of just under 1000 students.... it's not good enough!

Last year a very small group of us came up with this idea to 'add' to this day in order to raise more money. We decided to set up photoshoots for people to come and get their photographs taken and printed by professional photographers for only 50cents!!

The day was a great success and this year came back in high demand!

(I also made a post about the event from last year in August.)

So this year after the jeans donations and photograph taking collection, we managed to raise a total of around $450!

Hi! Sorry for being absent for a few weeks!!

Life's been getting so busy!!!
So here a short update on how life has been!

1. Church
So right now we are in the mids of preparing for our church 17th anniversary! We are celebrating this year with the theme of Joy in Faith! The main choir is preparing to sing a song called, "We are God's Church," the youth choir is singing, "Oh Come Let us Sing." And also, the discipleship class is leading in worship along side the committee members! OH! and i need to find something purple to wear for the night!!

2. School
Hm.. school. busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy!!

We had our interviews for next years subject selections this week. The teacher interviewing me was a little bit bias for students taking history.... because he taught history! So he managed to talk me into dropping physics for history. Which I see to be a good thing because physics takes ALOT of my time to try and understand. And either way, I won't need physics or history to become a fashion journalist so it really makes no difference.

So subjects? English, maths, chemistry, history and geography for tee and photography is non-tee.

3. Work

So I've been working at subway for about 10 months now!! Does time fly by or what? Believe it or not, the subway I work at is lots of fun! The staff are friendly, the customers are diverse, the job itself is amusing and the pay is decent for the amount I actually do! So I only work a maximum of 10 hours a week to keep a balanced life with school, socialising and all.

BUT! There's a new job in my life now! Baby-Sitting! This all started a few years ago before when my cousin and her husband asked me if I was ever going to be interested in baby-sitting their 3 kids. I, of course, said yes! I don't think I've ever mentioned this before but I love spending time with kids!! They are just so creative, natural and they are kinda inspirational to me. So my cousin, parents and I agreed that I should do some growing up before I take on a role of baby-sitting and now that I am 16.5 years old, it is time! I've baby-sat them all by myself a few times now and they are pretty cool kids!!

The working world is pretty awesome!

4. Friends
Between school, church, work and new people I meet, FRIENDS ARE EVERYWHERE!!! Friendship is something that I hold very close to my heart and it means lots to me that there are always people who care for me and are willing to be there for me! I thank God for all the true friends that I am blessed with!

5. Me

Well life goes on. And to be honest, right now, I'm facing a personal mental struggle but if there's anything I know and believe with all my heart, is that there is a greater purpose for everything that happens.

Youth Camp 2011

So another years youth camp has gone by.
Each youth camp is significant and special to everyone in unique ways.
For me, I found this year's youth camp to be special for three reasons!

1. A refreshing reminder about what REAL joy is.
To be completely honest with myself, in the recent months I’ve realized that I’ve been backsliding back to the old me where I found joy in the material thing of the world and not of the kingdom. And because worldly joy is only temporary, after it faded and left me with no real joy. When I knew that this was the state I was in, I determined to change it and it was just the Lord's perfect timing that bought me to youth camp where the theme was so applicable to the struggles I was facing in my life.
We studied the book of Philippians where Paul was stuck in prison and writing a letter to the Philippian church. We read about how Paul, though stuck in prison, still managed to find joy in fellowship, prayer and suffering.
At this youth camp I was reminded that real joy is everlasting and only found in the Lord. I learnt that real joy something that you have to seek daily from the Lord to plant into your heart. Real joy means contentment, inner peace, being thankful for your blessing and to find joy in literally everything you do!
Thankfully, I’ve found this joy all over again in the Lord!!

2. Serving in the Youth Camp!
That's right! This year I was more than an ordinary camper! Pastor Chris asked the discipleship class (Jewel, Kelly, Charlene, Elijah, Darryl and myself) if we would like to serve along side the YPG committee this year! It was a brand new experience that lifted the entire youth camp to a greater level personally and as a group! Serving at youth camp gave me the opportunity to see the inside scoop of how everything works and runs. Including late night meetings, running through chairing songs and helping out with bits of the program! It was lots of fun and hard work but I really enjoyed it!

3. The last night!

Usually on the last night of camp everyone goes into groups after the final evening message and reflects over the camp. This year, we decided to put on a little concert to enhance the idea of sharing joy!! Each team, the discipleship group and the committee performed an item that we all thought shared joy! Each team had a great performance and it all brought a lot of joy to the audiences hearts!

So youth camp was yet again another amazing highlight of my year!

High School kids..

The other day at school, we had parent teacher interviews! This meant that all the students only had to stay at school for half the day and then were free to do whatever we liked! *yay!!*

So, while I was out with friends enjoying myself, my brilliant little sister volunteered to help out at school as a student host for parents interested in a tour of the school! This meant she was a representative for the school and had to wear formal school uniform.

When I got home, I noticed that she was still wearing the formal school uniform and I asked her why. That's when she told me the lamest, meanest, silliest story ever! Apparently, a few students thought it would be funny to steal her clothes from her school bag and throw them into the disgusting school toilet...

HOW MEAN IS THAT!!! seriously!? Who does that? BULLIES!! :(

Anyway, so that meant she had no winter clothes to wear for the next day at school. But thankfully, I am such a lovely big sister lent her my winter clothes while I threw together something else to keep me warm but still looked good!

And for the first time since I started dressing myself, I went to school looking like a stereotypical school girl. And I was called CUTE! :/ so.many.times...

What did I learn?

1. Some high school kids are just mean and silly!

2. Sometimes doing good things for all the right reasons can still lead to bad results..

3. And apparently, I look cute when I dress like a school girl.

4 steps to buy the perfect present

It's a given fact that most people struggles with buying a present for someone.

But for me, I pick out a present with 4 simple steps!

1. Be sure that the present I get is suitable for the occasion.

For an example, it's your anniversary with your girlfriend and you have been seeing each other for 3 years, giving them a pair of socks is more than a TERRIBLE idea! But taking them out for a night full of surprises that will demonstrate the way you feel for her is an amazing present to receive!

I love the idea of someone who knows how to spoil you when theres a need for celebration!

2. Decide what you want the message to say.

You always want to get a present for someone that represents what you want to say to them for the occasion! So if it was for my best friend birthday, I would get her something that represents our friendship, not something like a new hair straightener..

This year for my best friends birthday, I put together a very very very big scrap-book full of memories from our childhood up till now! I haven't given it to her yet, but I know she'll love it!

3. Decide if I want to get a personal and or a costly present.

Meaning if you want it to be something that is really from the heart that shows you know them or something that is just nice to have! Or combining both ideas together!

I usually only combine both idea's if the person I am giving the gift to means a lot to me!

Also, I prefer receiving and giving personal meaningful presents!

4. Don't set your mind till you've seen a variety.

There are SOOOOOOOOOO many great gifts out there. When you are buying a present, don't go out with your mind completely set on something. Exams & New Academic Goals

So year 11 exams. The first proper set of exams in an Australian students life! Preparation was scary! Not knowing exactly what to expect is not a nice feeling.

I went through English, Maths, Physics, Geography and Chemistry exams.

Thankfully, I passed 4/5 of them! Which isn't too bad for my first time.

I wasn't too pleased with most of my scores but hey, it's a learning lesson!

And the important thing is, that I now know what it's like and what to do in exams. Next time, it'll be a 5/5 pass with flying colours!

Hopefully.. :)

This leads to the new academic goals!

For each subject I have individual difficulties and instead of sitting there and letting them get the best out of me, I have made a little battle plan!

I'm going to post it here so I can't pretend I never challenged myself about it if I fail... No one likes failure. hahah :)

1. Enlgish:

Strength Level: 9.5/10

Difficulty: Reading tasks, slow reader >.<

Strategy: Practice reading more! That's right, I'm going to read books!

Hoped Outcome: I want to be a journalist so, This is my hoped outcome!!

2. Maths

Strength Level: 8/10

Difficulty: Panic out when it comes to tests/exams

Strategy: Ask for more work so I can practice being more certain with class work.

Hoped Outcome: Be more relaxed in Exams and get a better overall score!!

3. Physics

Strength Level: 8/10

Difficulty: Understanding when the teacher tries to teach it.. no offence.

Strategy: Study the text by myself with understanding.

Hoped Outcome: Know what we are learning before the teacher teaches so what he says is just re-affirming what I already should know!

* I made a deal with Pam that we will both get over 75% in our overall score for the end of the year! I have it all in writing :D

4. Geography

Strength Level: 8/10

Difficulty: Nothing really, I just have no interest in Geography..

Strategy: Continue doing what I am doing!

Hoped Outcome: Do even better? haha

5. Chemistry

Strength Level: 8/10

Difficulty: Again, I just have no interest in studying Chemistry..

Strategy: Find motivation! If I like physics, I should like chemistry...

Hoped Outcome: To like Chemistry!

* I made a deal with Damien that we will both get over 70% in our overall score for the end of the year! I have it all in writing :D

And if you're wondering why I'm taking Geography and Chemistry when I have no interest in these subjects, it's because my school didn't have anything else I was remotely interested in for TEE subjects. I would have loved to do photography, media, art or music TEE...

Plus, its not like I'm terrible at these subjects, I just have no interest in it!

But Oh well! What's life without a challenge?

So now that this is all up in writing,

I determine achieve my goals! :)

I'll put it down to words, honestly.

I haven't really posted anything recently that is actually facts. Just hints! So I think it's time I actually straighten out the hints I drop around.

Trust

Back in March 22, I posted my thoughts on the word trust. Its been almost 3 months and a lot has changed. In all honesty, I'm the not the kind to share really personal things. I've always thought that to put trust in others, is setting yourself up for hurt. And after the 16 years of things I've been through and seen, I determined to never let myself come close to the pain that can be caused by trusting people too easily.

Well, after everything I've gone through, I am even more determined to keep my heart safe.

But I won't forget,

everything is by the will of God.

Boy: I.. Well! You know, she’d get jealous easily. I could barely talk to other girls! I had to hide it from her so she wouldn’t bitch about it.  

His Best Friend: So, you broke her heart because she just wanted you to commit to her? She thought you were faithful, but you lied so she could find out later and hurt even more? She just wanted the only guy she ever loved to love only her. I see..  

Boy: Well, she..  

His Best Friend: You broke up with her because she’s good for you? She just wanted the best for you? She’s broken now because you were selfish. Are you proud?  

Boy: I broke her heart.. Because I couldn’t see what was happening.. What happened to me?

 His Best Friend: You lost the only girl that loved you like no one else could. You see? You didn’t want her when all she ever wanted was you. THAT’S what happened.
